Rand Paul misleadingly claims that solely Democrats go the Jim Crow legal guidelines

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) made the dishonest and insincere claim that only Democrats passed Jim Crow’s laws to restrict voting.

Paul said on Fox News, “What is valid about this is that we shouldn’t allow mass voting by mass groups. We should allow individual voting. If you would like to vote by post or early, we can take this into account. Georgian law allowed an early vote. Kentucky law too. Allows more voting. There is nothing wrong with showing ID. We shouldn’t allow bulk dropboxes for 10,000 ballots.

There is potential for fraud there. However we can hold the elections with integrity, people who are rebuked by the president will trumpet that they are out of place. Anyone who calls it Jim Crow doesn’t realize that the story of Jim Crow is the story of the Democratic Party. There are almost no Republicans in our history who support Jim Crow’s laws. Every Jim Crow bill passed in our nation’s history has been passed by Democrats.

Senator Paul misled viewers about Democrats. The Southern Democrats, who backed Jim Crow, left the Democratic Party after the Democrats passed and LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act and Suffrage Act.

In his book Moyers In America, Bill Moyers attributed the testimony to LBJ, who, according to Moyers, said after the Civil Rights Act was signed, “I think we have only delivered the South to the Republican Party for a long time”.

Over time, the Southern Democrats saw a political shift that began with Nixon’s appeal to them in 1968 and was in full bloom by the time Trump came on stage in 2015. The Southern Democrats, who backed Jim Crow, are the backbone of the modern Republican Party.

Rand Paul knows that.

Senator Paul also understands that only Republicans pass laws that make voting difficult.

In 2021, the Republican Party is Jim Crow’s party.
