New York Governor Andrew Cuomo holds a press conference Monday on the coronavirus as Covid-19 hospital stays and deaths rise in the state.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, New York was the fourth state in the US to hit 1 million Covid-19 cases on Sunday, after California, Texas and Florida.

Nearly 8,000 people with Covid-19 have been hospitalized in New York, most since early May, according to data from the COVID Tracking Project run by journalists in the Atlantic. The state reports an average of 143 Covid-19 deaths per day, according to a CNBC analysis of the Johns Hopkins data.

Cuomo has warned that there could be a surge after the vacation as more people congregate inside, increasing the spread of the virus.
