Turkish actor Can Yaman (Dolunay, Violet Like the Sea) stars as the legendary pirate Sandokan, alongside British newcomer Alanah Bloor (Waves) as Lady Marianne, the spirited daughter of the British consul.

Sandokan is a pirate who lives day by day: he fights only for himself and his crew, including his trusty Yanez. But his life changes when during a raid he meets Marianne, the beautiful daughter of the British consul in Labuan.

Based on an idea from Lux Vide CEO Luca Bernabei, the new Sandokan will have a strong connection with the environment, and was developed for television by Alessandro Sermoneta (Devils), Scott Rosenbaum (The Shield) and Davide Lantieri (Monterossi ), and directed. by Jan Maria Michelini (Devils) and Nicola Abbatangelo (Doc). Other starring actors are Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl, The Children of Men), Alessandro Preziosi (The Doctors, Black Out, The Lying Lives of Adults), John Hannah (The Last of Us, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Sliding Doors, The Mummy), Madeleine Price, Gilberto Gliozzi (Them, I delitti del Barlume), Mark Grosy (Zero Zero Zero) and Samuele Segreto (Stranizza d’amuri, The Hour).

The original 1976 TV series catapulted actor Kabir Bedi to Bollywood stardom, having sold in over 85 countries worldwide.

“Sandokan is not just a story of pirates, or history, or adventures in exotic lands, it is a love story: one of the first multicultural romances of our time and, never more than today, a symbol of a passionate and responsive peaceful to hatred and division,” said Luca Bernabei, CEO and producer of Lux Vide.

Jens Richter, Fremantle’s General Manager Commercial and International, added: “We’re delighted to reveal a first look at Sandokan. Action-adventure at its best, based on a fantastic pirate franchise, it’s a fun-filled premium series and escapism, acquired by our spectacular cast. Lux Vide and Rai Fiction are fantastic partners and we’re delighted to be part of this world-class series with them.”
