The United States will require people traveling from the UK to test negative for Covid-19 no later than 72 hours before departure, the CDC said in a statement late Thursday.

The statement said President Donald Trump would sign the order on Friday, Christmas Day. It will come into force on Monday.

Earlier this week, the UK announced it had identified a new strain of Covid-19 that appears to be spreading faster. Dozens of countries have been quick to restrict travel from the UK to keep the strain from entering their own borders.
